Danger on the Range
A police officer’s job is to serve and protect. You face countless dangers on the streets every day to ensure the safety of your communities. You have been trained to handle many different high-risk situations that come along during a shift. Situations where losing focus for even a second can be devastating. In addition to these everyday dangers, there is a hidden threat that could be affecting the health of you brave men and women as well as your families without even realizing it. That threat is lead exposure.
With the increased frequency of range use for firearm training, officers (and subsequently their loved ones) are now exposed to lead on a more consistent basis. Officers face a significant risk of exposure at both indoor and outdoor ranges, where lead dust and particles can be inhaled, ingested, or absorbed directly into the skin. This exposure can lead to various health issues, including headaches, fatigue, concentration difficulties, heart disease, high blood pressure and in some cases severe neurological problems.
Police departments have a responsibility to implement measures to lessen this major health risk to their officers. While at the range, there are many safety measures in place to make it as safe as possible such as mandatory hearing protection and eye protection. However, there are still very few preventative measures on the books to reduce lead exposure.
And it’s not only the officers at risk. Since GSR is airborne, it can attach itself and remain on hands and other surfaces long after a range session is over thus becoming a continuous source of lead exposure to everyone you come into contact with until properly cleaned. Some of those people, like children and pregnant women, are at elevated risk to lead poisoning.
Your Health is Non-Negotiable
When it comes to removing lead from your hands, regular soaps are not sufficient. Lab tests show that regular soap and water will remove somewhere between 50% to 60% of lead contaminants from hands. Tactical Grit has been lab tested to neutralize and remove 99.4% of lead contaminants.
As you face the many dangers of your job, don’t let something that can be easily decreased like lead exposure be an added risk. If your department range isn’t providing you with something more than soap and water, demand something better. Demand Tactical Grit. With Tactical Grit, you can focus on protecting the community while knowing you are being protected from the dangers of lead exposure.
What Your Fellow Officers are Saying:
These are just a few of the comments we’ve heard when we asked some departments for feedback on their purchase of Tactical Grit:
“We had all of the Deputies using the large pump bottles throughout the day during our handgun qualifications and they were much more likely to actually clean up after a string of fire and reloading with the ease of having the bottles on the table right next to the ammo"
Deputy Brett Lawrenson - Rangemaster
Utah County Sheriff- Provo, UT
“It has been a great product for us, that certainly does as advertised”
Patrol Commander Rob Caselli
Vernon Hills Police- Vernon Hills, IL
“The officers think it's great. Cuts down on the time for officers constantly washing their hands. Feels clean after using it too, not just a basic sanitizer that doesn't get the job done”
Detective Sergeant Roy Balsamo – Rangemaster
Niles Police- Niles, IL
